About Us:
Roux's Snoballs is located in the Pebble Creek Collection at 19651 Bruce B. Downs Blvd. This delicate icy treat began in 1936 in the great city of New Orleans, Louisiana and is a taste that is continually desired for by anyone who has ever had the pleasure of having one. You may wonder what brings Roux's Snoballs to Tampa so let me give you a little of the owners family's history.
Nicole was born in Sale, Australia where her dad was working for an American company. At six months old her parents transferred back to New Orleans. Nicole spent the next 19 years growing up in Metairie, Louisiana, a suburb on the outskirts of New Orleans. Snoballs were a treat that was enjoyed by Nicole as reward for her hard work at school or just a family trip to the local snoball stand. At 20, Nicole joined the United States Air Force, Security Forces and during the next eight years Nicole was stationed in Montana, Colorado and Florida. While she was stationed in Colorado she met the love of her life, Mike.
Mike grew up in Dunbar, Pennsylvania a small town about an hour south of Pittsburgh with close family and community values. Mike also joined the Air Force, Security Forces and later was an Aerial gunner on MH-53 Pavelow helicopters at Hurlburt Field, 20th Special Operations Squadron. During his time in the Air Force he was stationed in Wyoming, Colorado and Florida, in addition to deploying several times to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
As their relationship grew Mike and Nicole planned their first trip to New Orleans, where Mike had his first snoball or should we say his first five snoballs all on his first visit to the local snoball stand. Needless to say he had never had anything like it before and every time we visited New Orleans the snoball stand was always our first and last stop in town. Mike and Nicole were married in New Orleans and didn't think it could get any better until they had three children of their own to share a family night out at the snoball stand watching their children mix flavors and try new ones until they found the right ones for them.
Mike, Nicole and all three kids Madison, James and McKenzie moved to New Jersey after getting out of the military hoping that this would allow them a better opportunity to spend more quality time with their children. After three cold years in NJ their work brought them to Tampa, Florida where Nicole's parents and sister moved after they lost their home to hurricane Katrina. After moving here they noticed there was still something missing... A snoball stand! After careful consideration and planning they decided they wanted to open their very own.
Some of the key factors that Mike and Nicole discussed was how they would get to spend even more quality time with their children and how they could become more involved and supporting in the local community. Mike and Nicole stated " we have several positive programs that promote education and quality affordable family time, we know what the true meaning of family and community means and would love to share it with everyone. We want our children and the community children to have the opportunity to grow up with the same values and memories that we did"...
